Want to become a master DJ? Beat Refinery® DJ lessons and classes offer everything you need. Whether you’re an experienced DJ or it’s your first time on the turntables, we’ll help you unlock your potential as an artist!

Beat Refinery combines practical and artistic training for aspiring DJs and producers. We can teach you how to master the turntables, as well as industry leading software like Serato and Ableton Live.

At the same time, you can learn how to match beats, mix songs, and craft your own hits! Our instructors also offer tips and advice on how to build a unique sound, land your first gigs, and develop your image.

Whether you’re signing up for one-on-one DJ lessons or enrolling in our group classes, we can help you build and refine your sound! Class duration ranges from 30 to 60 minutes.

Private DJ Lessons

Our private DJ lessons are a perfect entry point for first-time DJs. They’re also a great way for amateur DJs to learn new skills from the pros.

By signing up for weekly private lessons, you’ll get one-on-one instruction from an experienced DJ or producer. We tailor these lessons for each student’s existing skills and experience level.
We currently offer our lessons both in-person and online.

This way, new DJs can learn basics, like how to operate their turntables and successfully match beats. Meanwhile, more experienced DJs can hone their mixing, scratching, and beat making skills.

Group DJ Classes

In Beat Refinery group classes, you can learn to master the turntables with other aspiring DJs. We offer courses in mixing, scratching, and beat making, as well as beginner classes.

All of our DJ classes are taught by experienced DJs and producers. Our class size ensures each student gets direct instruction, with curriculum adjusted to their skill level.

Beat Making 101 is available to ages 8+, while our mixing, scratching, and beat making classes are open to ages 10+.

Beginner Classes

In Beat Making 101, we offer beginner DJ lessons for aspiring DJs and producers. This class teaches students the basics of music production. Students learn to create music using BandLab for Education, an award-winning program that simplifies music production for students.

Mixing Classes

Mixing is a critical part of every DJ’s skill set. Our DJ mixing lessons start with fundamental skills, followed by lessons on basic, intermediate, and advanced mixing techniques.
From beat matching and phasing to mash-ups and loops, Beat Refinery builds a strong foundation for DJs in training.

Scratching Classes

Scratching is one of the important and useful skills in a DJ’s arsenal. Our DJ scratching lessons include basic scratches as well as techniques like phasing, doubling, and echoing.
Experienced students can skip ahead to advanced scratching classes, making this program ideal for both beginners and experienced DJs.

Music Production Classes

With Beat Refinery’s music production course, you can take your skills into the producer’s booth! Our music production classes use Ableton Live, a leading program with pro musicians and producers.

These classes will teach you how to master Ableton Live’s software. At the same time, we’ll show you how to craft your own beats and produce studio-quality songs!

Online Workshops

Our online workshops cover topics like music production and DJing techniques. In our music production workshops, students get an introduction to software like Pro Tools, Ableton, and BandLab. In our DJ workshops, we cover topics like sampling, scratching, and livestreaming.

Have a question about music lessons at Bach to Rock®? Below, we’ve collected some of the most frequently asked questions about our programs, including which types of lessons we offer, how much our programs cost, and how to get started!

Bach to Rock offers a wide range of music programs, including lessons for all ages and skill levels!

Our private lessons include programs for piano, guitar, bass, ukulele, drums, and voice, as well as brass, string, and woodwind instruments.

We also offer group classes — including beginner classes like Piano 101, Guitar 101, and Voice 101 — plus ensemble programs like Band and Glee Club.

Pricing for Bach to Rock music lessons depends on the type and duration of lesson. You can find up-to-date pricing and schedules for all of our programs through our online sign up system. Pricing may vary by location.

All Bach to Rock students must have access to their own instruments for at-home practice.

Bach to Rock is more than happy to advise parents and students on instrument purchases. We can recommend local stores that sell high-quality instruments for a reasonable price.

We also have wholesale contracts with instrument manufacturers and suppliers. This allows us to provide instruments at a discount to parents and students who purchase them from us.

A list of recommended instruments and accessories is available for all parents and students.

While students must have their own instruments for at-home practice, Bach to Rock will generally provide students with instruments for in-school lessons.

Drums, guitars, keyboards, and support equipment (such as amplifiers) will always be supplied by the school. This way, students don’t have to transport bulky equipment to and from lessons.

As students advance, they may feel more comfortable using their own instruments for lessons at Bach to Rock. Students are encouraged to bring their own instruments to school for lessons when possible.

Note that we do not provide wind or orchestral instruments such as clarinets, flutes, saxophones, or violins.

It's never too early to get kids started with music! At Bach to Rock, we encourage parents to start music classes early in childhood, so that kids can enjoy the developmental benefits of music education.

Our programs include Rock n Roll (ages 1-3), Rock City® (ages 3-5), Kids n Keys (ages 5-7), and Fun with Music (ages 6-7). Our early childhood classes help prepare students for private music lessons as they grow older.

We recommend starting private lessons at age 7. This is the age when most students are able to read sheet music — an important skill for private lessons.

Music education offers a wealth of benefits in early childhood. At Bach to Rock, we offer a range of fun and exciting programs to introduce your child to music!

These programs include Rock n Roll (ages 1-3), Rock City® (ages 3-5), Kids n Keys (ages 5-7), and Fun with Music (ages 6-7).
