At Bach to Rock, we’ve assembled an amazing team of music teachers! Our instructors include classically trained musicians, as well as working professionals who tour and record with major artists. Meet our owners, our behind-the-scenes talent, and our music teachers for piano, guitar, drums, voice, and more!

Matthew Knight

Matthew Knight - is the Site Director at Bach to Rock Lansdowne. He has been playing and writing music since he was 9. While he was getting a degree in Audio Production from Middle Tennessee State University, Matt spent his time performing and recording music with artists around the Nashville area. Since getting his degree Matt has been helping to record and produce music for up-and-coming artists. Matt takes inspiration from a variety of musical genres and artists, especially bands like American Football, Smashing Pumpkins and Touché Amoré. Matt is excited to help everyone along in their musical journey, and inspire them to share their love of music with others.

Brandon G

Brandon G - teaches piano, drums, guitar, bass and music production at B2R Lansdowne and South Riding locations. He is a recent college graduate from Radford Virginia, where he studied sound design and production technology. Growing up he played in multiple bands spanning a variety of genres and learned to play new instruments along the way. In his free time Brandon likes to learn to play new instruments and relax with his dog.

Deej A

Deej A - Deej (aka DJ Rhyme) kicked off his DJing career in the lively mid-90s and has since spun tracks for audiences all over the globe. Whether it's in clubs, at battles, or on the move, his sets—infused with the influences of legends, are a perfect mix of skill and creativity. When he's not behind the decks, he loves taking his Shih Tzu for walks, snapping photos, shooting videos, traveling, camping with his family, and hopping between islands.

Farris H

Farris H - teaches voice and Glee club at B2R. He has been studying music since age 5 and is a graduate of Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, earning a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Voice. Farris was born with a birth defect called Optic Nerve Hypoplasia, which makes me visually impaired. However, this has never slowed him down. Farris has performed with many groups and venues, including Carnegie Hall. He has also composed and collaborated on several original songs. He loves working at Bach to Rock because of the close-knit community.

Michael P

Michael P - teaches bass guitar, guitar, piano, and music production at B2R. With over a decade of musical experience, Michael performs live throughout the DC/Baltimore area, covering genres from pop rock to fusion jazz. His expertise extends to audio engineering and music production, working with artists from around the world to help them craft their perfect sound. In his free time, he finds joy in going to the gym as well as spending time with his pets.

Troy M

Troy M - is a professional bass player and instrument instructor. He graduated from Hagerstown Community College with an Associates in Music in 2024 and plans to pursue further education in music. His 15 years in performance speaks to his passion for music. Troy is the current bassist for the Drew Kuhens Trio, which rock a contemporary sound inspired by such acts as the Grateful Dead, Snarky Puppy, Animals As Leaders, and Tool. Troy believes in the music within all of us and is a self-described cheerleader of all genres and styles!

AM Lane H

AM Lane H - is an Assistant Manager at Bach to Rock Lansdowne. He is a piano and voice teacher. He has participated in many choirs across the east coast. Lane went to Bridgewater College for music and theory after being requested by the president of the music program, and was the only Baritone in the varsity choir. He has plenty of experience with musical theatre, including lead roles in; Les Miserables, Little Shop of Horrors, Newsies, and many more! His favorite musician is Bruno Mars. He is working on a Business degree to better himself and be more knowledgable in the business side of B2R.

Alena D

Alena D - is an early childhood instructor and teaches piano. She started out as a self-taught musician and has now been playing flute for 6 years, piano for 4 years and has dabbled around with multiple other instruments. She has been a camp counselor for 6 years working with kids of all ages. She is currently studying at Berklee School of Music for composition as she loves to write her own music.

Ryan U

Ryan U - teaches music production, drums, and piano at B2R Lansdowne. As a music producer, he specializes in electronic dance music, creating up-tempo original songs and arrangements influenced by video game music, both independently and for an independent record label. His video game covers have been nominated for awards, winning one of them, and he has written music for computer games created by GADIG. As a percussionist, he had performed with GMU's Spirit Drumline and briefly with the Washington Wizards' drumline. He also has experience playing in a marching band, indoor drumline, concert band, and district band. He credits Rock Band 2 as the game that got him into learning the drumset in the first place. Outside of music, Ryan likes to spend time with friends, play video games, play basketball, follow sports, and draw characters. His favorite band is 'Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas,' and he generally likes to listen to Japanese EDM

Sam M

Sam M - is a vocal instructor at B2R Lansdowne. She has been singing and has had a passion for music her entire life, joining her first choir in the fourth grade. Since then, she has participated in many All-County and All-State choirs. While in high school she was a choir student council member and a section leader in both alto and tenor sections. She has many years of musical theatre experience, including leading roles. She enjoys volunteering as well as dance and choreography and spent many years on a competitive dance team. She is working on learning the bass and piano, and would like to teach that in the future. She loves music and loves sharing her passion through teaching!

Sean M

Sean M - is a guitar, drums, bass, piano, and band instructor at Bach to Rock Lansdowne. He started teaching his friends how to play music in middle school after finding interest in Guitar during 7th grade. That eventually led to playing in bands throughout middle school and high school including Guitar Orchestra and Jazz Band. Sean was a part of the metal music scene in the northern Virginia area, and has opened up for big names in the genre at famous venues around the state. Sean started teaching at Bach to Rock in 2007 and has helped coach bands to win the 1st place prize multiple times at the Annual B2R battle of the bands. His students have been accepted to schools such as Berklee School of Music, and the Shenandoah Music Conservatory. Sean is also a DJ and live sound engineer, and does regular gigs every weekend. Sean's favorite music styles are Metal, Jazz, Electronic Pop, Reggae, Hip Hop/Rap, and everything Rock n Roll.

At Bach to Rock, we offer music lessons and group classes for kids and adults, plus camps and birthday parties! With our fun and beginner-friendly approach, it's never too early or too late to get started with music!

Lessons

Bach to Rock offers music lessons for all ages and skill levels. Our private lessons include piano, guitar, drums, voice, and a wide range of other instruments. We also offer beginner classes and ensemble programs like Band and Glee Club. Anyone can learn to play music with Bach to Rock — even if you've never played an instrument before!

Camps

Our camps are a perfect choice for students who love music! We offer full-day and half-day summer camps, spring camps, and winter camps for kids, plus camps on school holidays. Our camps are great for students who want to start learning music and see what it's like to perform!

Parties

Birthday parties at Bach to Rock give kids a chance to be rock stars for a day! With themes like Karaoke Birthday and Rock Birthday, partygoers get to perform and record songs by their favorite artists. We also offer birthday party packages for younger children and corporate teams!

At Bach to Rock, our instructors include a mix of classically trained musicians and working professionals. Our teachers actively tour, perform, and record as independent artists or as backing musicians for other musicians and bands.

By working closely with students in one-on-one lessons, our teachers make it easy to learn music and build performance skills!
