At Bach to Rock, we’ve assembled an amazing team of music teachers! Our instructors include classically trained musicians, as well as working professionals who tour and record with major artists. Meet our owners, our behind-the-scenes talent, and our music teachers for piano, guitar, drums, voice, and more!

Area M Thom Routon

Area M Thom Routon - is the Area Manager and Director of Bach to Rock South Riding. Thom graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music with a concentration in Music Technology, with Double Minors in Business and Ethnomusicology. In addition to being Director, Thom enjoys applying his creativity as an audio engineer in studio recording and live sound. He has been involved in music from a very young age and has over fifteen years of classical training in violin, as well as over a decade of proficiency in mandolin, guitar, piano and voice. Thom began writing original songs while in college, and has recorded, produced, and released his original music under the name Brother Kestrel. Thom has continued to work on new songs and collaborate with local artists in Northern Virginia. Thom takes his influences from Folk, Rock, and Alternative genres, including bands like Radiohead, Sufjan Stevens, The War on Drugs, and Alt-J.

Andrew P

Andrew P - is a Music Specialist at B2R South Riding. Andrew teaches drums, guitar, bass, piano, and is also a band instructor. Andrew started music at a young age, beginning with piano. Once he entered middle school he stopped learning piano and switched to concert percussion. In high school he began to learn drum set alongside percussion. During this time he was involved with the high school's marching band, after school drum corps and the Youth Orchestras of Prince William. Once he got to college, he taught himself guitar and bass in between classes. Andrew attended Stony Brook University, working and managing the university's recording studio. While there he developed a new appreciation for different types of music, which he would have normally not been exposed to. Currently Andrew plays in a metal band and does recording and audio production for different rappers and musicians.

Audrey S

Audrey S - is a voice and piano instructor at B2R South Riding. She received her Bachelor’s degree in music at Westminster Choir College in Princeton, New Jersey. She earned her Master’s in music and opera at the State University of New York at Buffalo. While at SUNY Buffalo, she was a three-time winner of the Cameron Baird Concerto Competition. In 1995, she was the recital winner of the Richard Tauber Vocal Competition, and was a finalist in the Metropolitan Opera and New Jersey Opera auditions, as well as the New York Oratorio Competition. Audrey is an accomplished soprano, having performed solo works and operas nationally and internationally. She has performed in Carnegie Hall and Kennedy Center. She was a featured soloist in “Opus Classics Live” on WBFO Radio and performed with the Greater Buffalo Opera Company and Buffalo Opera Unlimited. She was also on the faculty of the Gow School in South Wales, the Director of Music at St. Philip the Apostle church, and the music director of the Kalina Singing Society, a Polish-American women’s choir in Cheektowaga. She served on the Board of Directors and as a judge for auditions for the Chromatic Club of Buffalo. She is excited to share her knowledge with the students of B2R!

Brandon G

Brandon G - is a piano, drums, guitar, bass and music production teacher at B2R South Riding and Lansdowne locations. He is a recent college graduate from Radford Virginia, where he studied sound design and production technology. Growing up, he played in multiple bands spanning a variety of genres and learned to play new instruments along the way. In his free time Brandon likes to learn to play new instruments and relax with his dog.

Emily C

Emily C - is a Music Specialist at B2R South Riding. She teaches guitar, piano, ukulele, and voice, as well as Early Childhood Music. Emily graduated from Shenandoah Conservatory where she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Therapy with an emphasis in classical guitar. She is a board certified music therapist, has been playing guitar for eight years, and also dabbles in other instruments such as mandolin and drums. During her free time, Emily likes to write music and listen to nearly anything Alternative. She loves working with children and sharing her passion for music with others, and she is excited to teach at B2R!

Ethan C

Ethan C - is a Music Specialist at Bach to Rock South Riding, teaching Trumpet, French Horn, Piano, Guitar, and student bands. Ethan is studying music at James Madison University and has toured the East Coast with the Spartans Drum and Bugle Corps playing Trumpet, French Horn, Mellophone, Saxophone, Piano, and Guitar. He has also played with various Jazz and Wind ensembles. He spends his free time practicing various instruments and playing with his dogs.

Jeremy S

Jeremy S - is a Music Specialist at B2R South Riding. Starting with piano lessons at the age of 7, Jeremy has been involved with music in one form or another for most of his life. Mainly a drummer these days, with 18 years of playing experience, Jeremy has performed with artists around the DMV area, as well as playing on albums. In addition to drums and piano, he also has experience playing guitar and bass. He has a BS in Physics from George Mason University.

Jonathan U

Jonathan U - is a cello, guitar, and piano instructor at Back to Rock South Riding. He is currently pursuing a biology major at George Mason University, and loves the opportunity to be able to teach music. Jonathan listens to a variety of genres like Rock, Latin, Classical, and Hip Hop and enjoys finding the opportunity to discover new music.

Joshua W

Joshua W - is a Music Specialist who teaches piano, voice, clarinet, flute, violin and viola. Joshua is currently pursuing a degree in psychology with a minor in political science. He attended Durham School of the Arts, a visual and performing arts magnet school in Durham, North Carolina. In his early youth, Joshua belonged to two youth choirs at Morehead Baptist church and St. Joseph AME Church in Durham. In middle school he belonged to his school chorus and the youth choir at his own Church St. Philips Episcopal Church Durham, where he would also sing with the adult choir. While attending Durham school of the arts Joshua focused his musical education on Piano, Voice, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Contra Alto Clarinet, Contra Bass Clarinet, Flute, Bass Flute, Viola, and Euphonium/Baritone. Josh loves music composition and is most interest in classical, R&B, opera, bluegrass, gospel, jazz, rock, gothic rock, pop, and secular music.

Megan D

Megan D - is a Music Specialist at B2R, where she teaches woodwinds, violin, early childhood classes, and piano. She received her Master of Arts in music composition from Radford University. In addition to being a composer of instrumental and electronic music, Megan is a multi-instrumentalist, primarily playing clarinet, saxophone and violin. She has performed in various local community ensembles around the Roanoke, VA area and actively records her own compositions on a regular basis. Megan’s compositional style fuses the boundaries of modern electronic music with acoustic “classical” music. Megan is also an advocate for music theory and applying it to performance and composition where possible.

Richard S

Richard S - is a Music Specialist at B2R South Riding. he teaches beginnger voice and piano as well as guitar. He graduated from Manhattanville University where he majored in music business. He has played guitar since 2005 and was in several bands at Bach to Rock Bethesda.

Ryan U

Ryan U - teaches music production, drums, and piano at B2R. As a music producer, he specializes in electronic dance music, creating up-tempo original songs and arrangements influenced by video game music, both independently and for an independent record label. His video game covers have been nominated for awards, winning one of them, and he has written music for computer games created by GADIG. As a percussionist, he had performed with GMU's Spirit Drumline and briefly with the Washington Wizards' drumline. He also has experience playing in a marching band, indoor drumline, concert band, and district band. He credits Rock Band 2 as the game that got him into learning the drumset in the first place. Outside of music, Ryan likes to spend time with friends, play video games, play basketball, follow sports, and draw characters. His favorite band is 'Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas,' and he generally likes to listen to Japanese EDM.

Terry R

Terry R - teaches guitar, voice, and beginner piano at Bach to Rock. He brings 50 years of playing and recording experience with every lesson. From Country to Punk, Heavy Metal to Funk, he has performed it all, whether solo, or in an ensemble. He has formally studied Classical Music Theory as well as Jazz Improvisation and puts a strong emphasis on good technique. His true belief in the unabashed joy of playing music is evident from the moment you meet him. He truly believes in enjoying every aspect of the musical education.

Thomas W

Thomas W - is a music specialist who teaches voice, piano, and trumpet. He graduated from George Mason University with a B.F.A. in Computer Game Design, and a B.A. in Music Technology. Thomas has been performing music most of his life, including multiple honor choirs, musical theater, concert bands, marching bands, pep bands (including G.M.U.’s Green Machine), and, most recently, is a member of the Master Singers of Virginia. These varied musical experiences and his education allowed Thomas to record, mix, and release his first comedy EP, “Laugh Tracks” in 2023. While he continues to compose comedic music in a variety of styles, he loves playing and designing video games and listening to a wide variety of music including (but not limited to): musical theater, rock, pop, folk, jazz (especially New Orleans style), rap, hip hop, classical (with an upper and lowercase “C”), video game music, sea shanties, and other comedic musicians such as Bo Burnham, “Weird Al” Yankovic, and Tom Lehrer. Thomas enjoys sharing his knowledge of music and is excited to share his knowledge with students at B2R.

Adam B

Adam B - is an Assistant Manager at Bach to Rock. He is excited to share his love of music with the community.

AM Brittani W

AM Brittani W - Is an Assistant Manager at Bach to Rock South Riding. Brittani grew up in Loudoun County. She spends her time playing handbells as well as providing sectionals in woodwinds, brass, and percussion. In her free-time she enjoys puzzles and cruising with family around the world.

AM Trianna O

AM Trianna O - is an Assistant Manager and Vocal teacher at Bach to Rock. Equipped with a degree in Musical Theater from the American Musical Dramatic Academy in NYC, she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to her craft. Trianna draws inspiration from iconic musicals such as Wicked, Rent, and Hamilton, finding creative fuel in their narratives and melodies. She is influenced by Jessica Vosk, Yebba Smith, and Idina Menzel, whose talent and dedication resonate deeply with her own aspirations. With a blend of technical expertise and creative flair, Trianna continues to make meaningful contributions to the world of musical theater both as a director and a mentor to aspiring performers.

Aaron S

Aaron S - is a Music Specialist at B2R South Riding. Aaron teaches guitar, bass, and is also is a band instructor. A certified recording audio engineer from The Recording Workshop in Ohio, Aaron's experience includes 25 years of live performance, studio work, group and private lessons. He enjoys most types of music and is always eager to expand his knowledge in the music/theory field. His musical interests include anything from King Crimson, Rush, Led Zeppelin, Steely Dan to Death, At the Gates, and even Miles Davis.

Joseph D

Joseph D - is a Music Specialist at Bach to Rock South Riding. He has been playing and writing music since he was 6, specializing in Bass, Piano, Drums, Guitar, Voice, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba, Banjo and Recording Arts. Joseph has spent his time performing and recording music with artists around the Chicago area, and has been helping to record and produce music for up-and-coming artists. Joseph takes inspiration from a variety of musical genres and artists, especially artists like Ween, Big L, Björk and Kate Bush. Joseph is excited to help everyone along in their musical journey!

Sean M

Sean M - is a guitar, drums, bass, piano, and band instructor at Bach to Rock South Riding. He started teaching his friends how to play music in middle school after finding interest in Guitar during 7th grade. That eventually led to playing in bands throughout middle school and high school including Guitar Orchestra and Jazz Band. Sean was a part of the metal music scene in the northern Virginia area, and has opened up for big names in the genre at famous venues around the state. Sean started teaching at Bach to Rock in 2007 and has helped coach bands to win the 1st place prize multiple times at the Annual B2R battle of the bands. His students have been accepted to schools such as Berklee School of Music, and the Shenandoah Music Conservatory. Sean is also a DJ and live sound engineer, and does regular gigs every weekend. Sean's favorite music styles are Metal, Jazz, Electronic Pop, Reggae, Hip Hop/Rap, and everything Rock n Roll.

Lessons

Bach to Rock offers music lessons for all ages and skill levels. Our private lessons include piano, guitar, drums, voice, and a wide range of other instruments. We also offer beginner classes and ensemble programs like Band and Glee Club. Anyone can learn to play music with Bach to Rock — even if you've never played an instrument before!

Camps

Our camps are a perfect choice for students who love music! We offer full-day and half-day summer camps, spring camps, and winter camps for kids, plus camps on school holidays. Our camps are great for students who want to start learning music and see what it's like to perform!

Parties

Birthday parties at Bach to Rock give kids a chance to be rock stars for a day! With themes like Karaoke Birthday and Rock Birthday, partygoers get to perform and record songs by their favorite artists. We also offer birthday party packages for younger children and corporate teams!
